Having not played for three weeks since their loss to Robb College, the Blues were ready to put points on the board against a Glen Innes side who were struggling to find form. 

Coach Luke Stephen said it was pleasing to see his young side put together a consistent performance. 

“It was one of those games where we were able to take the opportunities when they were available,” he said. 

“I think we have been guilty of trying to overplay our hand sometimes throughout the season so it was good to see we didn’t necessarily leave points out on the field. 

“We were happy with the result after having a string of losses throughout May. 

“It is always good to get back into the winner’s circle.” With little over a month until finals time, all teams in the competition will be looking to build momentum for what is shaping up to be a competitive finals series. 

Albies sit on top of the ladder with the Barbarians not far behind but Stephen believes any side is capable of taking out the title and is looking for his side to lift in the back half of the season.

“It is starting to get towards the business end of the season now,” he said

“We are looking to build into a position where we put together six or seven really strong games leading into another crack at defending our title. 

“With my zone hat on, it is great for the competition that we are at the end of June and we know that anyone that turns up on any day could beat any side and that is really healthy for the competition.”

This weekend, Barbarians take on Robb at Alcatraz and Albies host the Elks.
