University of New England employee Sophie Sincock wants her team to walk 10,000 steps a day for the whole of September as part of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s annual Steptember fundraiser.
“The average office worker does 3000 steps a day so doing 10,000 will be challenging,” Ms Sincock said. She is expanding her footprint for the month with the recruitment of netball teammates Grace Jeffery, Amy Simshauser and Kylie Frost to form “The Valkyries”.
The Valkyries are aiming to raise $1000 for the alliance but will be thrilled to reach $1500.
Ms Sincock said she was excited to be hitting the pavement again to help raise funds and awareness.
“It’s raising money for cerebral palsy,” Ms Sincock said.
“While I don’t know anyone affected by it, I think it’s a great cause to get involved with.
“It’s a fun way to do it by getting active.”
The team hopes to host a few fundraising activities including a backyard movie night for their netball buddies and friends.
