The new window of closure means the revised timeline has narrowed by 12 months, towards the start of 2016.
Port Augusta Mayor Sam Johnson immediately called on the state and federal governments to provide an urgent response to the region in relation to today's announcement.
"We need our state and federal governments to provide support for our region now," Mr Johnson said.
"We are not asking for any more than what was promised to the northern suburbs with the closure of Holden in 2017.
"A closure date of March next year for the power stations is looking more likely and we need action now by our federal and state counterparts."
