Police told The Express the student’s Honda Jazz was parked outside a Queen Elizabeth Drive home when it caught the eyes of a thief.
Inspector Chris McKinnon said at around 5.30am, a window was smashed by the offender.
“A backpack was stolen from that vehicle,” he said.
“Inside was a university assignment.”
Police were unable to confirm whether the assignment was printed out or on a portable hard drive.
The due date of the assignment has also not been confirmed, however anyone who comes across a discarded essay or report may want to hand it in to police - as even though the deadline may have passed, it might just assist in helping the student save face with their lecturer.
Anyone with information about the theft is being asked to contact Armidale Police on 6771 0699 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
