Rainfall has been more than double the average for Armidale this month.
Furthermore, higher than average rainfall is tipped for the city in May and June.
Bureau of Meteorology Moree Station weather observer Alison Skinn said this month’s rainfall was a total of 82.4 millimetres in Armidale.
Guyra has also welcomed the rain as it received 125.4mm on April 4, Ms Skinn said.
This was above the average 47.6mm month rainfall prediction.
NSW Farmers Association Armidale branch President Andrew Cameron said the rain was welcomed by farmers as better conditions for stock were seen in the New England this year.
“It has been a positive and better situation than last year,” he said
“I would not like to say that there is a negative.”
He also said crops and livestock would benefit while going into winter this year. Cattle will also reap the rewards with the reduction of hand-fed food because of fresher pastures.
The next few months will help farmers escape the devastation faced with drier conditions.
But Mr Cameron said it was also important to note that not all towns in the region have received double the rainfall.
He said some farmers’ dams remained half full or lower due to lack of run-off.
