Clayton Donovan is Australia’s only indigenous hatted chef and he’s bringing his insight into international and Aboriginal food to the school on March 17.
Mr Donovan will talk with some of the school’s indigenous girls who are part of the Aboriginal Girls’ Barista and Hospitality program, run by the school.
The girls have been visiting cafes to learn the trade and run their own small business at the school on Wednesdays.
Mr Donovan will also teach a masterclass for the girls and some of their teachers in how to prepare world class bush tucker. Relieving principal Carolyn Lupton said as Australia’s only indigenous hatted chef, Mr Donovan would make a great role model for the school’s students.
Money to host the acclaimed chef was raised by the girls in the café program with a further $450 donated by New England Community Mutual.
The 11 girls in the program range from years 9 to 12 and have been watching Mr Donovan’s show Wild Kitchen on the ABC in preparation.
Mr Donovan started learning about indigenous food from his mother and aunties when he was four years old. Throughout his career he has prepared food for stars, including The Eurythmics and the Los Angeles Lakers.
