Armidale Australia Day Committee chairman Colin Gadd said it was a huge success.
"We had roughly about 400 people come through," he said.
"Everything went really well, except the only thing that didn't go according to plan was that the rain mean the rock band Terra Firma couldn't play."
The celebrations coincided with the Armidale Jockey Club's Australia Day race meeting for the first time, and organisers say the clash was an excellent combination.
"It actually worked out quite well," Mr Gadd said.
"We had some people there who had never seen a horse race before, particularly the children."
