The couple are asking Armidale residents to consider helping a fledgling charity improve the lives of impoverished children overseas.
Their charity, Ausken, has raised about $12,000 to go towards the purchase of land in Kenya for an orphanage which could eventually house 80 children.
But they plan to travel to Kenya in March to purchase the land for their charity for $20,000.
Without any major sponsors the couple have raised the money on a shoestring budget, selling Kenyan goods at markets and having weekly barbecues in front of Bing Lee where Ms Barnden works.
Ms Barnden said they planned to have a silent auction at the end of January to raise more money for the project.
But they recently held a Kilos for Kenya fundraiser which saw people sponsor weight loss over a 12 week program.
Ms Barnden said money from that program was still trickling in and estimated it would bring in an additional $5000.
But that would still leave them very short of their ultimate goal.
