Jordan Robb has been left a quadriplegic after landing on his neck after being thrown from a bull causing damage to his neck and spinal cord.
He was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney where doctors told him he had damaged his C4 and C5 vertebrae.
Armidale paramedics are being praised for their actions after the accident.
“The surgeons from Sydney were overjoyed with the care he got here,” Armidale Four Seasons Rodeo secretary Ann Hone said.
“They think it probably saved his life.”
An appeal has been started for Robb, who grew up in Coonamble, but now lives in Dubbo. Before Robb’s accident it has been a terrific day of rodeo action.
Jake Plate took out the open bull event with a score of 83.
Tamworth’s Jillian Burch took out the steer undecorating in a time of 2.02.
Nicole Fitzpatrick proved the one to beat in the ladies breakaway roping in a time of 1.95.
The team roping event was taken out by Blaine [header] and Roger [heeler] Parkinson in a time of 8.54.
Heath Nichols won the steer wrestling in 4.73.
Dee Heinemann and her score of 86 were good enough to win the bareback bronc ride, while Jake Whalen won the novice bull event.
Hone said aside from the tragic accident it was a successful weekend.
“We had a great gate in spite of the wind and heat,” she said.
“We were very happy.”
Hone also sent her best wishes to Robb on behalf of the Armidale Four Seasons Rodeo.
“The poor kid, he’s only 18,” she said.
“The community wishes him all the best for a speedy recovery.”
