A MAN has pleaded not guilty to allegedly detaining his former partner in a bid to rekindle their relationship.

The accused remained in custody when the matter went before the Armidale Local Court on Wednesday, with one count of assault occasioning in bodily harm and take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm.
In summing up the charges, Magistrate Karen Stafford said the man detained his ex-partner on August 28 in to “force her to recommence the relationship.”
“She received bodily harm while she was detained,” Magistrate Stafford said.
He waived his right for a committal hearing for the take/detain charge, and will stand trial.
The victim applied for an apprehended violence order to be served against the man, which was put in place for a period of two years.
Magistrate Stafford emphasised to the man that he was not to make attempts to contact the alleged victim.
“You cannot send a message from jail to here by someone else or by a Facebook post or other social media,” she said.
“You can receive up to two years jail for breaching the order.”
A trial date will be set following a liaison with the district police prosecutor on December 17.
The man did not apply for bail and will remain in custody while the matter unfolds.
