WILD winds and heavy rain on Wednesday night kept the local unit of the State Emergency Service busy with dozens of fallen trees causing havoc in Armidale.

With chainsaws at the ready a three-man crew made up of Barry Warner, Charles Lang and Liza Saint took on the challenge of removing a massive pine that split at the base during the storm.
The jobs continued to be called in well into yesterday afternoon with volunteers expecting a busy couple of days of clearing up the damage.
Seventeen calls for assistance were made during the storm, with teams working into the night and then returning for duty the following morning.
The service was called to 433 storm jobs across the state on Wednesday night, with Tamworth receiving one of the worse batterings.
