The Rams held a 16-10 lead at half time but were forced to defend their line for most of the second half as the Hawks ran in three tries.
It was not until the last 10 minutes of the game when a Clarrie Moran intercept just inside the Hawks own half gave the Rams a chance to take the win.
In the final minute of the game, man of the match Shaun Cox ran over two players to put one down in the corner and level the scores.
Fred Waters conversion attempt from the sideline went wide but the Rams were content with the draw after a difficult half of football.
Armidale president Terry Carson said it was tough with Inverell getting a lot of the ball in the second half.
“We didn’t make too many mistakes but we had to weather a lot of consecutive sets,” he said.
A few controversial refereeing decisions had the Hawks fuming but Carson said he didn’t see anything wrong with the decisions.
“It some of the best refereeing I have seen all season,” he said.
In Moree, Uralla had a difficult game going down to the Boars 64-18.
A big first half from Moree left the tiger licking their wounds.
The result has the Boars and the Rams in qual fourth place on the ladder.
