It has been a challenging experience but I have learnt so much and it has definitely been worth it.
Every day has been something different and I have enjoyed learning what it’s like to be a journalist and behind the scenes of how a newspaper is put together.
Work experience is very important to school students because it teaches them what the world is like outside of school.
It shows the students the skills they will need in their chosen area of work and the ways they can excel and reach their goals in the future.
For the students who discovered their work placement was not the career path they want to follow it was still a good opportunity to experience what the job would be like.
All of year 10 at Duval High School has taken part in work experience from June 2 to June 6.
The careers-based placement takes place every year for year 10 students half way through term two and goes for five days.
This year students have chosen from a range of businesses and industries to experience the work force.

From the Court House to the Armidale Hospital, to the Fire Station to Independent Sports and also primary schools like Ben Venue; it has been great for all the students to take part and have the experiences that come with each of their chosen jobs.
Time is going quickly and school will be over before we know it so I think it’s a great program to be a part of so the students understand and realise the hurdles work life brings.
My time spent at The Armidale Express has been very interesting and I have enjoyed it thoroughly.
It has opened my eyes and I have learnt a lot. I have met a lot of new people over just a few days and it has been a wonderful experience.
