The low-budget film, described as similar in style to American Pie and The Hangover, is the creation of writer, producer and director Peter Cameron.
Bush Boys follows the misadventures of four young men from Armidale who decide to take a roadtrip to Sydney after main character Dave is dumped by his girlfriend.
The film’s four main actors braved the chilly waters of Dumaresq Dam outside of Armidale on Wednesday as they shot scenes where their characters splash about exuberantly.
Actor Matt Clarke, who plays Dave, said the scenes shot in the dam were challenging because of the frosty weather.
“The water’s actually not too bad, it’s the wind that gets you,” he said.
Mr Clarke, who is originally from Perth, said they had filmed scenes in many different locations across Sydney and rural NSW.
“If I didn’t have this experience I wouldn’t have seen anything like this over on this side of the coast,” he said.
Actor Joel Hogan said they had enjoyed seeing the New England countryside and were enjoying visiting Armidale.
“It’s a very beautiful part of the world,” he said.
Actor Dave White said filming Bush Boys had been an overwhelmingly positive experience.
“One thing that has happened that you can’t even plan is the chemistry between Matt, Joel and me,” he said.
“I only met Matt a couple of days before we started and we instantly hit it off.
“That reads so well on screen and I think that will really come across in the movie.”
The group also filmed scenes featuring Armidale and Uralla landmarks, as well as driving through the streets of town.
Mr Cameron said once production was complete, he hoped to possibly hold a screening of the film at UNE.
“Hopefully we should have something by mid-year to show these guys and we can do a cast and crew screening then take it on the festival circuit,” Mr Cameron said.
