A Tamworth resident and a New England local are among the 16 people who died with the virus across the state in the 24 hours to 4pm on Wednesday, NSW Health confirmed.
NSW Health did not specify which town the New England resident was from.
The details of the locals who died were not made public but the authority said of the 16 deaths across the state, nine were men and seven were women.
Six people were aged in their 70s, five in their 80s, four in their 90s and one person was older than 100.
The majority had been vaccinated, with 12 people triple-dosed, one person double-dosed and one person had been jabbed once.
Two of the people who died were not vaccinated.
Eight of the deaths were from the Sydney area, while one each were from Wollongong, Goulburn, the state's central west, the Hunter, Lake Macquarie and Orange.
NSW Health expressed its sincere condolences to their loved ones.

The Hunter New England Health (HNEH) district topped the list for daily case numbers in NSW yet again, with a total of 2417 new COVID-19 cases clocked in the latest reporting period.
In the HNEH area, there are 91 cases being treated in hospital and three are in intensive care units.
There were 17,447 positive test results reported across the state in the latest period, including 9596 positive rapid tests and 7851 positive PCR tests.
The rate of people diagnosed with COVID-19 has decreased in younger age groups and has stabilised in older age groups, NSW Health said.
The statement also said the number of people being admitted to hospital has decreased.
NSW Health urges people to get vaccinated and get boosted, wear a mask in indoor settings when distancing can't be maintained, test and isolate if symptoms appear and keep up good hand hygiene.
Close contact isolation rules are loosening from Friday.
