CONSTRUCTION on the $10.4 million multi-purpose centre at Armidale Secondary College is progressing quickly, with MP Adam Marshall last week inspecting the works.
The multi-purpose centre will be the icing on the cake of the $121 million Armidale Secondary College development, providing a space, available for the community to use, which unites the performing arts and sport together under one roof.
Tamworth and Armidale Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) representatives are demanding a five per cent wage increase for retail workers.
To back up its claims, SDA has used recently published data, which estimated retail workers across the Tamworth and Armidale local government areas contribute more than $225.5 million to rural economies per year.
NEW England Labor candidate Laura Hughes has thrown her support behind the party's childcare policy, which would see subsidies and caps increased.
Labor has committed to lift the maximum childcare subsidy rate to 90 per cent for families for the first child in care, as well as increase subsidy rates for every family with one child in care earning less than $530,000.
New England MP Barnaby Joyce this week said he will stay on as Nationals leader regardless of the election result, so long as the party wants him to.
He did note that being reinstated as party leader is not a guarantee.
Mr Joyce said that was a matter for the party room and it would be wrong to speculate about what decisions may or may not be made depending on the outcome of May's election.
