The Armidale region will soon get to experience the magic of skating on ice at Armidale's Curtis Park next month, although a small date change has occurred to accommodate contractor availabilities.

The arrival of the 25-metre ice-skating rink has been pushed back by one week and will now be available to patrons from May 13 to 29.
Mayor Sam Coupland said the delay stemmed from the consistent wet weather and availability of contractors to construct the rink.

"There are three separate contractors required in the construction of the ice-skating rink who are experiencing delays in current projects, which is having a flow-on effect, impacting the dates for the ice-skating rink and being able to align all contractors," Cr Coupland said.
"While the community will still get to experience gliding under the stars and festoon lights, it will just be a week later than originally scheduled and now linking in with the Big Chill Festival weekend."
The ice-rink company is a specialised business which will come from out of town, however Cr Coupland said at the February announcement that the council would be using local security companies, and all infrastructure for the weekend would be hired through local businesses in Armidale, Tamworth and Inverell.
Ice rink sessions will run daily from 10am to 8pm and tickets are available for purchase from www.bigchill.com.au.
Council has also been approved for Dine & Discover vouchers to be redeemed for ice-skating from Tuesday, April 19.
