WITH a new council being ushered in after the local government elections, there are some big decisions to be made on the future of the Uralla shire, and a new program aims to make the public a large part of that.
'Postcards' have been popping all throughout the region, and they are encouraging residents to share their opinions on the goods and bad of the shire, as well as things residents see as opportunities.

Their feedback will help council form its new community strategic plan, with the current version of the document already under review.

Retiring mayor Michael Pearce said he believed the program would make it easy to reach residents in even the furthest or most remote reaches of the local government area.
"The postcards are a quick and easy way for residents, wherever they are, to share their unique perspective on what is important to them," he said.
"The goal is to reach as many people as we can to build a combined community vision based on individual and shared experiences of living in this beautiful part of NSW."
Council general manager Kate Jessep is encouraging people to take part in the program and said it can have a major impact despite taking very little effort to complete.
"Council is fortunate to have engaged community members who are passionate about their part of the world, along with the incredibly valuable hubs that are our general stores," she said.
"Even if a person is time-poor, and living in one of the far reaches of the shire, they will be able to have their say."

A spokesperson said council is keen for the strategic plan to receive meaningful input from the community, businesses, non-government organisations and local groups. This is so it can reflect the views of different parts of the community.
The postcards can be found at the Bundarra Store, Bundarra Library, Invergowrie Store, Kentucky Store, Kingstown Store, Uralla Library and Uralla Customer Service Centre.
