Thousands filled the streets, and the flicking of the switch was a fun finale to an afternoon of festivity, which included performances by the New England Conservatorium of Music, Armidale PLC, Highland Dancers and New England Singers.
And of course, there was an appearance by Santa, Mrs Claus and a trio of elves.
The man in red and white arrived in style in the back of a 1909 Talbot, the oldest car owned by local vintage car obsessive Lyndon Hardman, driven by Mr Hardman's son Rick.
Beardy Street Mall was transformed into a street of market stalls, food vans, live entertainment and kids' activities.
Festivities spanned from Faulkner Street to Jessie Street as the celebration continues to grow in popularity and to adhere to social distancing regulations.
