While Moree had the lowest three-month total of five LGAs measured in the New England area - at 262mm from September through November - it equated to almost 47 per cent of the average yearly rainfall for the town.

Based on data from the Bureau of Meteorology, Armidale, Glen Innes, Tenterfield, Inverell and Moree all had more than 40 per cent of their average yearly rainfall through the past three months, while temperatures have stayed fairly standard through spring.

Armidale was drenched in 192mm of rain in November alone, accounting for a quarter of its annual average of 756mm.

That figure is double the November average of 96mm, while the earlier Spring months also provided higher than average figures.

October was only 15 per cent wetter than average with 85mm falling on Armidale, while September had below average rainfall, recording 36mm.

In Armidale, Monday was officially the wettest day of the week with rain on November 8 and November 22 combining to provide 61mm, while Saturday, November 27 was the largest single downpour for the spring months with just under 35mm falling.

On November 23, the Bureau of Meteorology announced the Pacific Ocean was officially in a La Nina phase.

Of five LGAs measured in the New England area, Glen Innes had the largest falls in November, recording 224mm with November 11 providing a 46mm soaking.

That gave it the highest above average falls for the region as well, 100mm higher than typical, while Glen Innes on average enjoys a wetter November than other towns around the region.

Glen Innes also saw more of the wet stuff in October, recording 98mm.

Tenterfield had the wettest October with 121mm for the month to finish 50mm above the average, while November rains were 80mm above the average with 186mm falling.

Moree had the lowest figures of the New England LGAs with 160mm across November, just 23mm in October, but a wetter start to the spring months with 80mm in September.

Inverell claimed the top single daily downfall in the New England area with 61mm on November 21, while Moree was a close runner-up, recording 59mm earlier in Spring on September 30.

November 11 provided the largest widespread downpours with Moree recording 53mm, while Glenn Innes soaked up 46mm, Tenterfield was drenched by 44mm and Inverell recorded 36mm on the same day.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported on Wednesday that a number of rainfall records had been broken over the spring with Narrabri further inland receiving a record-breaking 230mm across spring, with about 40 per cent of its annual rainfall dropping in the past three months.
