While the speed and appetite of investors for our local hospitality venues can be alarming, it does show strong confidence in our economy.
That confidence was also on show at a long lunch fundraiser on the weekend when the small town of Walcha hosted 300 people from across the region on the grounds of the local Walcha Golf Club to raise more than $40,000 for a local school.
However, the downside of our region's popularity is a lack of affordable housing. This issue was raised at the final year meeting for Armidale Regional Council last week.
The motion, moved by councillor Margaret O'Connor, was to advise and seek assistance on the 'critical shortage of housing' in the Armidale and Guyra areas and was carried unanimously, although Cr Jonathan Galletly dubbed it 'electioneering'.
This week we are all busy (or should be ) giving final thought to who is worthy of our vote in the local government elections on Saturday.
And we are collecting your issues through our online poll to see how they align with our candidates' priorities.
But is worth remembering that no matter who is elected, a team of dedicated and professional staff is working behind the councillors to help plan and deliver our shire's future.
This was demonstrated well last week by the announcement of an impressive 50 years of service by Robyn Shanahan at Armidale Regional Council.
Have a great week, and consider your options carefully this coming Saturday.
