At around 9am on Monday, the man was working at the Metz Solar Farm in the east of Armidale when he sustained serious injuries in what police have described as an 'industrial accident'.
The man was working beside mobile plant equipment when it approached a live transmission line, and a 'flashover' occurred.
Armidale Police were joined by paramedics and members from the State Emergency Services Armidale unit at the scene shortly after the accident.
Officers from SafeWork NSW also attended, and the matter is currently under investigation.
The site was closed on Monday, while a thorough investigation into the incident was undertaken and reopened on Tuesday.
The injured man is reported to be in a stable condition and awaiting surgery for burns to his arm.
