We need a collaborative, professional council who will lead the regional economic growth by encouraging new businesses, large and small to prosper. Population growth is essential and interlinked with the success of new business. An injection of tourism coordinated and facilitated by council is essential. An affordable and sustainable water security strategy is critical, both from a catchment/storage as well as a treatment/delivery perspective.
2 What do you think is the single most important issue facing the Armidale area?
The formulation of a functional, collaborative, professional and respectful council is long overdue. A succession of dysfunctional councils have deteriorated our region leaving us decades behind peer regional economies. Its time to turn the lights back on by ensuring new, ungrouped, independent candidates who bring skills and attributes to lead us forward are elected.
3 What projects/developments do you intend to advocate for if elected as a councillor?
The next term of council will be one of austerity with limited budgets for new projects. However, there are several crucial and strategic projects which require focus to lead them to completion including the upgrade of Malpas Dam wall, the Armidale Airside Business Park and the New England Renewable Energy Zone. I also believe we need to engage a regional activation manager who is responsible for attracting and developing new business, as well as coordinating tourism opportunities and strategically enticing visitors.
4 What expertise or attributes do you have which would help you in undertaking the role of councillor?
I am an agile leader, team builder and inclusive collaborator currently working with one of the world's oldest consensus building and business improvement organisations. Experienced in business in private, public and not-for-profit sectors, and previously a CEO and Managing Director, I am a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
