A community where businesses thrive and the commercial and cultural hearts of our towns are visibly flourishing. A place with first class activities and events which make us a desirable destination for tourists and give all members of the community quality recreational facilities.
2 What do you think is the single most important issue facing the Armidale area?
For our population to grow by at least 10,000 in the very near term and everything that hangs off it - thriving businesses, quality jobs, first class amenities (sporting, recreational, cultural) and genuine tourism.
We need to create a 'gravitational pull' for more business investment, more government services and the infrastructure to support us until we become a self-sustaining region impervious to the fortunes of one or two industries.
This will ensure our rates remain affordable and the services Council can offer are continually improved.
3 What projects/developments do you intend to advocate for if elected as a councillor?
Ensuring the community benefits from the Regional Energy Zone with Council effectively managing a 'future fund' that delivers a stand-alone revenue stream to be used to deliver services and facilities that have been out of our reach
Best use of the Airside Business Park and Malpas Dam wall upgrade
Working with the community to develop a year round calendar of big ticket sporting and cultural events to attract people to our region
Continually strengthening the financial position of Council
4 What expertise or attributes do you have which would help you in undertaking the role of councillor?
Financial acumen and business savvy. I am an experienced negotiator which will be essential for Council to move beyond current tribalism and reach consensus on the big decisions that are in the best interests of the region's future.
