To build on and enhance our region and realise its full potential. The innate beauty of our natural environment, the vibrancy of our cultures and the brilliance of our people.
2 What do you think is the single most important issue facing the Armidale area?
There's two parts to this reply. Firstly, the climate emergency is exactly that. If we don't act now we are jeopardising not only our future but that of our children and grandchildren. It doesn't need to be on a global scale to make a difference. Water security, biodiversity, land regeneration and elimination of heat islands are local initiatives we can introduce and embrace now.
Secondly, without an attractive and sustainable region, there is no incentive for business to start, grow or move here. If we look after our little patch, it will be infinitely more alluring for future business endeavours.
3 What projects/developments do you intend to advocate for if elected as a councillor?
A youth forum. We have almost a third of the population under the age of 30. It is their future we need to plan for and take action for now. The younger generations are full of ideas, but don't have much of a voice. If we want to keep the region prosperous, we need to keep the natural talents inherent in our kids, here.
I propose to provide the younger generations with a voice and a platform to make changes. Social, environmental and as a result, economic.
4 What expertise or attributes do you have which would help you in undertaking the role of Councillor?
I have worked across a myriad of industries and numerous boards during my working life. I hold integrity above all and am well versed in dealing with differences of opinion as well as relating to people from all walks of life.
