I would like to see our existing businesses and industries grow, which in-turn would help to increase our fairly static population.
2 What do you think is the single most important issue facing the Armidale area?
I think that it has been the lack of unity in our community. The forced merger of Armidale Dumaresq and Guyra Shire Councils has created disruptions for the region. Along with a period of council dysfunction, particularly in 2019/20, there has been a general low morale in the community. Council has to be a community leader and with a newly elected council and strong new management, optimism can be restored.
3 What projects/developments do you intend to advocate for if elected as a councillor?
An essential project, which is in the planning and costing 'pipeline', is the raising, by 6.5 metres, of the wall of Malpas Dam. This will potentially expand the capacity of the dam by an extra 16 or 17 gigalitres - more than doubling the existing capacity. I would work towards the continual development of the Airside Business Park including (pending grants and external funding) the Australian Transport Museum. I would work towards the continual improvement of Armidale and Guyra's CBDs. I would work towards a collegial council with professional training for councillors.
4 What expertise or attributes do you have which would help you in undertaking the role of Councillor?
I have almost ten years' experience as a councillor in our region. I have been involved with the sensitivities of two Council mergers, the initial work on what has become the Airside Business Park, numerous development applications and assisting many constituents with their concerns. I have a consultative nature and enjoy liaising between members of the community and council to resolve issues.
