A MOTORCYCLE rider has died after a crash east of Walcha on the weekend, and police are now searching for the driver of a ute as part of their investigations.

Emergency services rushed to reports of a single vehicle motorcycle crash on Cells River Road, 80km south east of Walcha, about 2:30pm on Sunday.
The male rider of the blue BMW motorcycle died at the scene from his critical injuries.

Police have not yet formally identified the man but he is believed to be from Tasmania.
Oxley police established a crime scene after the fatal incident and specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and combed the area for clues as they look into the circumstances.
Police are appealing to the public for information as they try to track down the driver of a four-wheel-drive ute which had a dog travelling on its tray.
Police claim the vehicle was being driven along the section of Cells River Road around the time of the crash and believe the man may be able to assist as investigations continue.
Anyone who might have seen the motorcycle or the ute, or who has dashcam footage from the area, has been urged to contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
