Armidale has established itself, a regional city, as a model for taking in refugees, more recently the Ezidis.
Now with UNE currently going predominantly online and vacant college space, why can't we establish a multipurpose Armidale Refugee Centre as a women's refuge for people experiencing domestic and family violence, adapting the Argentinian model of using women police posted at reception in a violence-free refuge, in one of the vacant colleges which would be ideal.
Why can't we use other vacant space to house Afghan refugees, those who are currently fleeing their homes for assisting the ADF forces in the fight against the Taliban over the past two decades. We owe them refuge.
