This week's round
East Armidale play Demon Knights at Doody Park
In the match of the round East Armidale come off a close loss to South Armidale last week and Demon Knight started very well in their game against Armidale City Westside Armidale City Westside but could not sustain it the whole game. This week's training for both teams should encompass a lot of activities focusing on penetrating the oppositions defense and composure in front of the goal. In the opening game of the season these teams had a nil all draw. The autopick sees this one as a one all draw. Both teams need to win to cement their place in the top four, so I will after tossing the coin go for Demon Knights by a goal.
South Armidale play North Armidale at the Sportsground
South Armidale after their first win of the season will be up against it against the very strong North Armidale team this week. The autopick has the Red Ladies as convincing winners by six goals to nil. Hoping for a closer outcome but must align myself with the stats for a six goal to nil win.
Armidale City Westside have the BYE.
Open Division 1
After a full round the top of the ladder is excitingly very congested. Three points separate the top five teams which is exciting and great for the competition. I also believe that the other two teams can take the cream off the cake and influence the finals placings in the coming rounds.
East Armidale host Demon Knights at Doody Park
Three players in this match lead the competitions' goal scoring, making both teams defensive strategies critical to the outcome. East Armidale's strike weapons Hoani Morrell and Basim Khudher are top of the competitions goal scorers and are pivotal to the success of both teams. Along with Demon Knights Ahmed Adeniji with a tally of six will cause plenty of havoc for the Suburbs. Concentrating too much on their ability is dangerous for both teams. With East Armidale coming off the BYE I favour them to win by three goals to one because of their depth and relative freshness as opposed to Demon Knights struggling in the final stages of last week's game. It really depends on how Demon Knights recovered from last weeks drop off near the end of the game. The autopick has the Suburbs winning by five goals to two. This stat is linked to the opening rounds result which is not reflective of where Demon Knights are now.
TAS host North Armidale at TAS Adamsfield
After watching some of the TAS V Inverell game last week, they need to be a little quicker in their decision making to keep up with North Armidale. This is more a statement of the off the ball action to allow the ball player to make better and quicker decisions. Aligned to this is the fact that the Redmen are more seasoned and experienced across the park and will not give the TAS outfit the space they need to make to dominate. Their close encounter in round one is a positive motivator for the young TAS team. It is hard to go past the Redmen to win by three goals to nil. The autopick has this as a three goal to one win to the Redmen.
South Armidale hosts Inverell at the Sportsground
With Jamie Wright and Josh Frost scoring almost half the goals for the Scorpions they have a strong impact on the teams' directions. In round one it was a five goal to nil win in Inverell. Both have grown since then and the autopick five goal to one win to the Scorpions is justified. It will be interesting how Josh sets his team up with Jamie coming back after having last week off and Josh playing a more attacking role suiting him and the team. Time to explore.
Armidale City Westside have the BYE
Open Division 2
East Armidale host Demon Knights at Doody Park 5-2
East Armidale players coming off the BYE will be primed to keep pressure on their first-grade players is an extra concern for Evan's squad. Demon Knights were on fire last week and if they can continue this momentum can upset the Suburbs, should be closer than the autopicks five goals to two win to the Suburbs. I'll predict a repeat of round one's outcome of three goals to two win to the Suburbs.
North Armidale host Guyra at TAS Adamsfield (moved from Guyra at the request of Guyra) 1-3
Both teams have seen large improvements since their round one encounter, more players and better combinations and depth. This should be a cracker and the match of the round. The Redmen will need to be at the top of their game. Both had good wins last week even though the Redmen faithful reflect that they struggled in front of the goal and missed too many opportunities. Three players in this game are in the top four goal scorers to date. At the top Norman Miniti gets a mention most weeks as he has scored almost half of the teams' goals. If applied well the Redmens strong backline can counter Norman's and Guyra's attacking prowess. Guyra are seen as the autopick winner by three goals to one. I am going to give the Redmen a chance in a close two all draw outcome.
South Armidale hosts Inverell at the Sportsground
Unfortunately Inverell have been struggling to compete in this division and need a bolster to their numbers to be more competitive. Hoping that this season is a springboard to the required growth within the community. The autopick sees this one as a comfortable five goals to one win to the Scorpions. The Scorpions have also struggled since their first two round wins and come of a big loss against Demon Knights. Maybe an opportunity for Inverell to hit the road win a bit of confidence and will to topple the Scorpions but I cannot go past the Scorpions by a closer margin of three goals to nil.
Armidale City Westside have the BYE
Open Division 3
Glen Innes at home against Guyra at Doody Park
Second week in a row for Glen Innes at home, and Guyra going up the road instead of down the hill. I'll start off with a WOW at the autopick ten goal haul and a five all result. A reflection of poor defense or great attacking. I will leave it up to you to work it out. Keen on the opinion of members of both teams.
Rexly Tasso has dominated the Guyra finishing with his eleven goals so far. Glen Innes are more sharing with three players in the top ten, together scoring fewer goals than Rexly. This is their first encounter due to realignments so I'll sit on the fence and say they will counter each other's strengths and go home with a disappointing two all draw.
South Armidale play Armidale City Westside FC Blue at Rologas
The Blues should be too strong for the Scorpions. The autopick has this one as a win to the Blues by three goals to one. The table is deceiving with the Scorpions coming into the competition after round 2. High scores against them in recent games lead me to favour the Blues by four goals to one.
East Armidale play TAS at Rologas
The autopick sees this one as three goals to one win to the Suburbs. TAS have struggled with their consistency racking up some big losses but also some very close encounters. The suburbs seem much more stable but seemingly are let down somewhat with the discipline. This will need to improve if they want to eb a force in the competition. Difficult to predict from TAS' inconsistency and coming off the BYE but must go to the Suburbs by the autopick outcome.
Armidale City Westside FC White has the BYE
Over 35's
Close results are predicted in this division again this week. Also, with three team close at the top of the ladder make all games critical.
Guyra play Armidale City Westside at Guyra
These teams have had two draws prior to this one. Guyra even though they are top the ladder has had four draws. The autopick has Guyra winning by four goals to two in this one. I cannot go past another two all draw.
North Redmen play East Armidale at Rologas
The ladders third placed team North Armidale is playing fifth placed East Armidale, another good game to watch. The stats indicate this as a close one with the autopick as three goals to two win to the Redmen which is hard to deviate from. Though I will give the Redmen another goal to their tally.
Demon Knights play South Armidale at Rologas
Autopick has this as two goals to one win for South Armidale. Second playing sixth and still a close prediction is good for the competition. My prediction being three goals to nil win to the Scorpions.
