More than 3,000 people came through The Big Chill gates in Curtis Park last weekend to enjoy the inaugural beer and barbecue festival staged by Armidale Regional Council.

With the weather lending a hand to ensure the festival lived up to its festival brand, it proved to be a mouth-watering event for the lovers of all things meat, smoked and barbecued.
There was a large line-up of craft beer, boutique wine, street food, market stalls, and live music.

Stalls were set up by the Black Duck Brewery from Port Macquarie, Deepwater Brewing, Great Hops Brewing and The Welders Dog from Armidale, the New England Brewing Company from Uralla, Petersons Winery from Armidale, Six String Brewing Co. from Erina, and the Glengowrie Distillery from Glen Innes.
Sets were performed by Jam, Ash Hall Trio, James Bennett, and Rai Thistlethwayte throughout the day on Saturday, and Vinnie and the Cuban Missiles, James Fittler and ABA Presentation on Sunday.
In his first competition, Peter Bukowski from Armidale placed fifth in the lamb cook-off on Saturday.
And in the Australasian Barbecue Alliance slow cooking competition on Sunday, the Raw Meat Experts from Armidale came fifth in the beef category.
