A motorbike rider has been airlifted to a Gold Coast hospital in a critical condition after a night time crash at an Inverell intersection.

At about 9.25pm on Thursday, the motorcycle collided with a Mitsubishi Pajero at the corner of Bannockburn Road and Urabatta Street.
The rider received multiple, serious "traumatic" injuries as a result, and had to be treated on site by local ambulance paramedics and emergency services.

He was then taken to Inverell Hospital in a critical condition, where he was met by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and their Critical Care team.
They worked alongside the hospital staff to treat and stabilise him before he was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where, as of Friday morning, he remained in a critical condition.
