That crossed my mind at the end of last week when we published a story about a robotic arm that can perform knee surgery.
It is a highly advanced, surgeon-controlled robotic arm that increases the accuracy of total knee replacements.
It is the latest example of our city being at the cutting edge of technology.
Glen Innes resident Carl Toovey was the first patient to undergo a total knee replacement using the Mako robot last week.
"When Dr Ferguson first told me I needed a new knee I said no bloody way, but I went away and came back and said to him you're right, I need to get this done," Mr Toovey said with a laugh.
Meanwhile, while the new can grab your interest, so can the old.
The story of the Guyra Ghost would be familiar to many, but the latest report marking a century since the mystery was in national headlines again grabbed our interest.
Like robotic surgery, tales of a dedicated squad of Sydney detectives, psychic investigators and journalists all enraptured by one of Australia's greatest unanswered mysteries can grab your interest.
Have a good week and thanks for reading.
