The Reds head to Sydney having lost just once in their past nine matches, winning seven of them to soar to second on the ladder.

Adelaide coach Carl Veart has set the ambitious target of going undefeated for the remainder of the campaign, starting with the match against the Sky Blues.

"This is one is a very important one for us because Sydney are last year's champions, they're the yardstick of the competition," Veart said.

"The playing group have put in some excellent performances over the last two months and tomorrow night has to be no different.

"We have to put in a great performance. We have to work hard and come away with the three points. That's what we're here for now.

"We want to go the rest of the season undefeated and there's a good test for us tomorrow night."

The Reds' rise has had plenty to do with the form of a dynamic front three, featuring wingers Craig Goodwin and Ben Halloran with Tomi Juric the focal point of the attack in the middle.

Socceroos striker Juric has scored in Adelaide's past two matches and will be eager to continue that scoring run against Sydney's defence.

The Sky Blues are also on a good run of form, climbing up to fourth on the ladder with four wins in their past seven matches.

New Zealand forward Kosta Barbarouses will be making his 250th A-League appearance on Sunday and comes into the match having scored three goals in his past three games.

After struggling to find the back of the net earlier in the campaign, the 31-year-old is out to extend his hot run against the Reds.

"Things always even themselves and work out for the best if you're working hard and doing the right thing," Barbarouses said.

"To get my rewards and the team's rewards in the last few games has been great. Any sort of striker knows once you get a taste of a few you're hungry for more and I want to keep scoring."

Sydney have named youngster Calum Nieuwenhof to make his return from injury but Paulo Retre is suspended.

The Reds welcome back Louis D'Arrigo after the teenager missed the 3-1 win over Macarthur due to suspension.

In Sunday's other matches, a desperate Newcastle are trying to claim their first win since late February after ending a seven-game losing run with a 1-1 draw against Perth in Coffs Harbour last Tuesday.

The Jets travel to Campbelltown Stadium to take on Macarthur, with Ante Milicic's men looking to respond after back-to-back losses to Brisbane and Adelaide.

Wellington have made the trip west to face the Glory in Perth with both teams eager to close the gap on the top six.
