Knowing the car to be stolen, police signaled for it to pull over.
Police say when the driver didn't, what followed was a 50 kilometre police pursuit involving a chase south to Gilgai, back north to Inverell and then east out to Elsmore.
The driver eventually lost control on Newstead Road near Newstead.
But not ready to give up, he allegedly fled the Holden on foot - and was chased and arrested in nearby bushland "without incident", police said.
He was taken to Inverell Hospital with minor injuries before being carted off to the police station.
The man was charged with eight offences, including police pursuit - drive recklessly, drive in a manner/speed dangerous, drive conveyance without consent of owner and possession of a prohibited drug.
He was refused bail by police, but then later granted bail to appear at the Inverell Local Court on April 29.
