ONE person has died and another two have been taken to hospital for treatment after multiple vehicles including a truck crashed on the New England Highway.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash, which occurred about 5km south of Tenterfield, before 8:30am today.
New England police officers have established a crime scene and the specialist Crash Investigation Unit has been deployed to the site, near Bungulla Platform Road.
Police confirmed two patients were taken by ambulance to Tenterfield hospital for treatment for their various injuries.
The third person involved in the multi-vehicle crash died at the scene, but has not been identified.
One lane of the highway has been reopened to traffic, but travellers have been asked to avoid the area if possible, because emergency services are still on the scene.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, and will look at all factors including whether speed, fatigue and road conditions.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward, or anyone who might have dash cam footage to contact crash investigators.
A CRASH between a car and a truck has made traffic conditions heavy on the New England Highway near Tenterfield on Monday morning, and emergency services remain on the scene.
The truck and car collided about 6km south of Tenterfield just before 8:30am on Monday.
