However, a lack of presence at Thursday's Sporties night by the team selected to play and represent Armidale in the Twenty20 match on Friday night against the Masters soured things a little.

Only one member of the team - Karl Triebe - was present at the event and there was a notable absence of seniors across the board.

Captain of the team, Brad King, along with the rest of the squad in Matt Baillie, Andrew Brownlie, Clarrie Moran, Cody Graham, Sam Uphill, Kyle Taylor, Tyson Burey, Charlie White and BJ Cameron all failed to make an appearance at the free event.

Armidale and District Cricket Association president Mike Porter blasted the senior cricket fraternity.

"I think it is bloody poor. There is no other word for it, it is bloody poor," he said.

"It can't be about the cost of going to it because there was no cost.

"The only cost was three hours of your time.

"I was disappointed they didn't show.

"But it seems to be the way."

Rain hammered Armidale during the week and if it wasn't for a handful of officials from Cricket NSW helping Porter tend to the wicket, no one would have got on the field on Friday night.

"Only one person [Triebe] from the whole team contacted me about how I was going with the wicket over there," Porter said.

"If it hadn't been for the Cricket NSW guys, Nathan Lyon and Steve Meakins, I would not have had the wicket covered and the game would not have been played.

"They helped me get the covers on and the covers off twice in the lead up to it.

"I am disappointed that no one, other than Karl, took the time to even want to get involved in that process."

Despite the one sour moment, Porter was happy with the tour overall.

"I am going to take the good out of it and say it was a great event for Armidale and great event for Armidale Cricket," he said.
