Back to school means back to the chemist for many parents right across the region as nits find young heads of hair to call home, but the Tamworth Head Lice Clinic is bringing a completely new, one-off treatment set to target head lice.
Run out of Priceline, it is one of the first and only clinics of its kind for the region and has already proven popular with towns across the New England North West.
Manager Dianne Duff said around this time of year, different products for nits just walk off the shelves.
"I've been here for nearly three years, and I've always seen people buying up big on the products in the holidays," she explained.
"It's always been pretty consistent - but the problem is now there are super nits which are basically resistant to almost all treatments you can get out there."
There is a one-off heat treatment at the clinic, which is said to "kill 99 per cent of lice" in one fell swoop.
It's followed up with a deep condition and a thorough combing to remove the bodies, and then the head and hair are coated in a special oil to smother any tough critters that still remain, just as a precaution.

"We had one mum who came in last week, and she'd tried everything, had spent over $1000 in different products to get rid of the nits," Ms Duff explained.
"They'd had them since June last year."
Already they've fielded inquiries from right around the region, several coming from Inverell.
Ms Duff hopes that this clinic will help eradicate the super lice from the region completely.
