A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been airlifted to hospital after he was gored by a wild pig in a hunting accident north of Tamworth on Thursday night.

A late-night emergency rescue was sparked just before 9:30pm, after reports the young man had suffered an injury to his lower leg while hunting at a Watsons Creek property.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and NSW Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene, and treated the 23-year-old man for a "very deep laceration" to his calf.
It is understood the man had been hunting with friends at the time, and the group managed to give him first aid while they waited for emergency services to arrive at the remote location.
A spokesperson for the rescue chopper told the Leader the man had been "gored in the lower leg by a wild pig" in the hunting accident.
The helicopter's critical care team helped stabilise the 23-year-old and he was airlifted to Tamworth hospital for further treatment.
It is understood he was in a stable condition.
