The charge came on day nine of a state-wide blitz designed to hold down the holiday road toll.
The 2020 road toll has proven the least deadly since before the Great Depression, with 297 deaths in 12 months. It was the lowest number of deaths on the road since 1923, according to statistics released on Saturday.
The greatest reduction in fatalities was on rural roads, with 50 fewer fatalities on country roads than 2019.
Minister for Roads Andrew Constance attributed the success partly to lower traffic volumes due to the COVID-19 pandemic and said "we cannot be complacent" about road safety.

Police conducted 170,753 breath tests, charged 7906 people for speeding, and 476 for drink driving. There were 601 major crashes, which left four people dead.
During the period, demerit penalties for speeding, seatbelt, mobile phone or motorcycle helmet offences were doubled.
