A LENGTHY police pursuit by car and on foot has ended with a vehicle being engulfed by flames and the arrest of a 23-year-old Armidale man.

Police allege attempts were made to stop a silver BMW sedan just after 5pm on December 31, at the Lighthouse Plaza Shopping Centre carpark in Port Macquarie.
Police allege a pursuit commenced on Ocean Drive, Port Macquarie but was terminated a short time later.

Police allege they then commenced a second pursuit of the sedan - being driven by the 23-year-old Armidale man - on Lake Road, Port Macquarie.
This pursuit continued west along the Oxley Highway when the vehicle stopped near the intersection with the Pacific Highway and erupted in flames.
Mid North Coast Police were immediately on scene.
Police allege the sole occupant in the BMW sedan got out of the car and was arrested after a short foot pursuit.
A 23-year-old Armidale man was charged with police pursuit - not stop and drive at speed; not stop vehicle when directed to do so; two counts of driving recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous; driving a motor vehicle during disqualification period; possessing a prescribed restricted substance; using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention and breach of bail.
He was refused bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on January 1.
