It will be the second race meet that has been shifted in as many weeks after Tuesday's meeting was moved to Gunnedah.
Tamworth Jockey Club general manager Wayne Wood said work on the track was still in the process of being completed.
"We've put some sods [turf] in it and they need to spread out in the bare patches," Wood said.
"The sods are about two foot by two foot and are about six inches apart, we're putting some fertiliser on it to give it a good kick along."
TJC's next meeting is scheduled for January 21 and Wood was confident the track would be ready to go in the new year.
The track will be inspected before that date and Wood said they would also be taking other precautions prior to race day.
"Safety first," Wood said.
"We'll put some horses over it before that date just to make sure it's OK. We had intended to gallop over the track last week but it's better to be safe."
As a result of the track shift to Armidale, the following race amendments apply:
Benchmark 66 Hcp (was 1600m) - now 1400m
Benchmark 58 Hcp (was 1000m) - now 1100m
