The second gala day was played in Tamworth on Monday after the first one was held in Inverell last week.
Twenty-four teams across two age groups - under 14s and 16s - took to the field.
"We had one [gala day] in Inverell last Thursday and one here. It's the first big thing we've had since Covid," Taylor said.
"There was really good numbers on the day. Usually we run about four or five around the region and it's usually in term one to use it as a stepping stone coming into the season.
"But with Covid and limited days to do it in term four, we decided to do two and make them bigger.
"Today in Tamworth we had schools from Tamworth, Gunnedah, Walcha, Quirindi and Armidale, so we had a pretty good roll up."
While there was no winners and losers on the day - scores aren't kept - Taylor said there was good games of rugby league played.
"It's just about getting them out there, having a bit of fun," he said.
"They are still competitive but we don't keep score.
"There was no real one-sided games and they all had a good time."
