When the hailstorm warning was issued last Wednesday afternoon, it predicted thunderstorms were likely to produce large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding in the next several hours.

While the weather forecast does not alway accurately predict what is coming, Wednesday's warning of what would hit both us and Tamworth was close to the mark.
I want to thank the readers who were happy to share images with the Express to show the impact it had at local homes as rain and hail hit the city.
The storm rolled into town at 5.48pm about an hour after the Bureau of Meteorology issued the alert.
Jenny Williams lives on South Hill in Armidale and sent us the picture above. She took photos of a carpet of hail in her garden which looked like a snow fall.
The official BoM rain gauge at Armidale airport clocked 17.2mm of the wet stuff falling between 6pm and 8pm and by midnight 33.6 mm in total had fallen in total since 9am on Wednesday.
Tragically, we learnt the following day the storm had claimed a life.
A man was driving along Sports Union Road when a large tree branch fell across the road, hitting the roof and bonnet of his ute, trapping him inside. He died the following day at Armidale Hospital.
On that same afternoon another storm warning was issued. It's a reminder how dangerous Mother Nature can be. Our condolences go out to the man's family and friends.
