The Blues accounted for cross-town rivals, the Barbets, in Sunday's do-or-die minor semi-final in Coffs Harbour in two thrillers.
In the opening match, the Blues managed to claim a 19-12 victory thanks to a Taneika Landsborough double. Tas Martin also scored in the win with Amy Barraclough nailing two conversions.
For the Barbets, Tori Brazier was the lone scorer with two tries and a conversion.
It was a day where the teenagers starred, Martin bagging a double for the Blues in the second game and Brazier grabbing a hat-trick.
The scoreboard read 17-12 in favour of the Barbets but the collective total from both matches put the Blues in front by two points, ensuring they would last another week.
Blues co-coach Andrew Patfield was elated with the way his side lifted to cover the absence of one of their stars.

"The loss of our captain Abby Brooker has obviously been a huge focal point," he said.
"Abby does a lot of the hard yards across the park that set the groundwork for our point scoring opportunities.
"The minor semi-final was the first time playing without her this year and we needed our girls to really lift to replace an enormous influence on our team.
"Each player did that spectacularly and we could not be happier with them."
With a host of newcomers to rugby 7s, the Blues have been improving all year,
Patfield was particularly impressed with the way they played to their strengths and are "peaking at the right time."
"In terms of Sunday's game, it sounds cliché, but we really needed to reiterate the importance to the girls to play our brand of rugby and dictate the pace," he said.
"It proved to be the telling factor in some very warm, energy-sapping conditions.
"The smiles on their faces after the full-time whistle makes the high blood pressure worth it, you can tell how much they are loving it."
With a grand final berth in sights, the Blues have to topple the Glen Innes Elkettes.
The Elkettes were beaten in their opening match against minor premiers, the Pirates.
They then rebounded to be the first team to beat the Pirates but their collective total was too low to book a grand final spot.
The last time the Blues met the Elkettes, they shared the spoil with a 19-15 win in favour of Armidale in the first game and 15-nil to the Glen side in the second.
"The Glen side are an exceptional football team, our girls are aware of this," Patfield said.
"There are match-ups all over the park, both sides have serious talent across the board.
"They beaten us and we've beaten them.
"It'll make a fantastic encounter regardless of what side of the fence you side on.
"If you love football on a Saturday afternoon, get over to Alcatraz because it will be a cracker."
