This time last year Armidale hosted the State Field championships and were meant to be hosting them again in two weeks' time.
Unfortunately, all events for 2020, both National and State, have been cancelled, but as an Archery NSW initiative a State postal tournament was held last weekend.
This was a handicap shoot in both junior and four open divisions.
Although the final handicap results won't be known until the weekend Armidale members competed very successfully in what were idyllic shooting conditions.
Armidale had 11 members contest the event and although final handicap results are still not known, all competed successfully, and enjoyed the idyllic conditions.
The 120 arrow Sydney round was shot in the open division.
This consists of 30 arrows at 70, 60, 50 and 40 metres on a 122cm face.
In compound division one Jeffrey and Dennis Carson finished second and third off bow with Jeffrey just one point behind Kirk Graef from the Central Coast with a score of 1170 out of a possible 1200. Michael Burgess, Matthew Hatch and Matthew Wolcott in division 2 all finished in the top 10. Dan Alter and Teena Hooper were both in division 3, Dan finishing 10th and Teena second.
Ella-rose Carson contested the ladies open recurve division one round and won off bow with a score of 1057, eight points in front of Kim Lavender.
Jamie Hatch competed in the men's open recurve division finishing fifth.
Both Ella-rose and Jamie are still eligible to shoot cadet divisions so this was a big step up and a great achievement for them.
Josie Hatch and Mackenzie Harper both won their respective intermediate divisions.
Other club members shot various practice rounds and it is anticipated that with the warmer weather and easing restrictions the club will be able to recommence twilight shooting as well.
