The former Guyra publican (Royal Hotel) has a share in Rexx with a large syndicate of Guyra locals after purchasing him earlier this year.
Most of those owners all had a beer or two at the "Top Pub" (Royal) before Cook left.
"A good group of young blokes," Ian Cook said.
"It was a good win."
He has had just the three runs for Cook since arriving from the Chris Waller stable in June and followed a 3.44 length fifth at Scone with a 3.43 length fifth to John Shelton's improving type Bugalugs at Grafton on Sunday.
Rexx had won three of his previous starts for the Waller stable and was ridden a treat by Shane Arnold.
Arnold led all the way, taking off at the 800m to put three and four lengths on his rivals approaching the turn and the son of I Am Invincible never looked like fading.
The four-year-old gelding won the $30,000 Winning Edge Presentations 4YO&Up Class 2 Showcase Handicap (1600m) by .63 lens from the Jeff Englebrecht-trained High Court with Tamworth trainer Craig Martin snaring third with Tavion Prince.
"He couldn't find the lead (on Sunday)," Cook said of his gelding.
"Goes better when he can find the front.
"He also needed the run. It topped him off after he had run a good race.
"It was good for Shane too.
"He had been offered another ride in the race but stuck with him.
"He was pretty confident too and that was also his first win back from a long injury layoff.
"He's also getting married in three weeks too."
Ian also wanted to thank young jockey Ridge Wilson in Inverell.
"He's been riding all his work for me," Cook said.
"I take them all up to Inverell and Ridge rides them all for me. Doing a great job".
Rexx might have also earned a trip to Sydney as well.
"There's a Highway over 1500m down there in three weeks or so," Cook added.
Today's win also had a financial fillip for he and his fellow owners.
"We paid $10,000 for him and he won $15,000 today. Paid his way now," Ian Cook beamed.
Earlier in the day Kris Lees started Ramornie Handicap day well when Illecebrous won the Group 1 Horse Feeds F&F Class 2 Showcase Handicap (1100m).
It was the filly's second successive win following on from her recent success at Port Macquarie when Andrew Gibbons also rode her.
The win enabled Lees to join Ballina's Stephen Lee and Grafton's Dwayne Schmidt in equal third on the Northern Rivers Racing Association trainers premiership with 19 wins this season.
Gold Coast trainer Mitchell Fry also had success when Flash Aah won the third race of the meeting by a nose from Neville Boyle's Kijito.
