The new, UNE Football League, which was formed due to previous issues with Northern Inland Football administration, is set to commence on July 18 and 19 with a two-day carnival for senior players with juniors beginning on the following weekend.
The senior competition will see Inverell, Glen Innes, Guyra and Walcha join Armidale-based clubs South Armidale, East Armidale, Demon Knights, Armidale City Westside, North Armidale and The Armidale School for a predicted, four division, 14-week competition.
Juniors will see Inverell host their own competitions with Walcha, Guyra and Uralla joining the Armidale-based clubs to hold a nine-week round robin format tournament beginning after the school holidays finish on July 25.
The junior competition will also feature the Jack Vallance carnival in the middle of the season.
Competition administrator Graham Parsons said signs look promising for the coming season despite the hurdles they have had to overcome.
"The unique position that Covid-19 has placed our communities in puts a lot of pressure on the clubs to quickly bring together teams, nominate and begin training sessions to place themselves in the best position to contest the modified 2020 season," he said.
"Clubs within the New England region are gathering momentum, calling for registrations of both junior and senior players.
"With the tight time-frame for bringing teams together clubs require the community to get behind them and register by the 12th July."
"Prospective senior players should contact their club and register early if they want to participate in the preseason carnival being hosted by Sport UNE on the weekend of the 18th-19th July."
Potential players are urged to contact a club, register early and begin training.
