While it goes by the name Armidale Business Chamber, the proposal is to replace that title with Business New England.
Anthony Fox, the chamber's president, suggested the idea and it will now be put to a vote when the business group holds it AGM later this month.

Mr Fox said the name change has been on the cards since the amalgamation of Armidale Dumaresq Council and Guyra Shire Council in 2016.
"We were concerned the name of the chamber would be the Armidale Business Chamber, even though there was a local government area which included Guyra," Mr Fox said.
The other reason for contemplating a new name, was to modernise it, Mr Fox said.
"It's an old-fashioned name, lots of business chambers have that type of name - chamber of commerce.
"We're trying to modernise the chamber and we want to modernise the name with it."
A number of names were thrown around, but Mr Fox said including New England in the title was the option that gained unanimous support from the members of the chamber's executive.
Now it will be put to the local business people at the chamber's AGM.
While the chamber is seeking to cover a wider area, Mr Fox acknowledged Guyra already had its own business chamber.
"This is not a takeover, we're not trying to take over anything, we're trying to reflect the local government area," he said.
"We could have called it the Armidale-Guyra chamber but no one was really keen on that, we were looking for another name."
