"If I'm in the right mindset, I just create something," the Calrossy student said.
He'll often sit down at the piano and just see what comes out.
If the year 12 student likes what he puts down, those ideas Luka can become a composition.
One of the latest compositions Luka created became his HSC work for his music extension class which in turn was entered into the Armidale Eisteddfod.
That composition not only won the Year 12 Music 2 composition section but he was also named overall winner at the eisteddfod.
"I felt pretty exhilarated by it," Luka said.
"I was already chuffed enough winning the year 12 Music 2 but winning overall was the icing on the cake."

Luka has been playing the piano since he was five and under the tutelage of Elizabeth Green, he passed the highest grade exam - grade eight - last year.
Calrossy head of music Naomi Turner said Ms Green had played a huge role in Luka's development.
"She's been really great with Luka in terms of teaching him and nurturing him from a small boy through to now," Ms Turner said.
The Calrossy teacher also heaped praise on Luka.
"He's very humble but he completed eighth grade last year and achieved an A-plus," she said.
"For him to do that last year in year 11 was an excellent achievement."
Luka is now focusing on his HSC studies before he plans to go to university and one day he hopes to work in the music industry - in particular sound engineering.
"Just anything to do with audio in terms of engineering. I've always had an interest in that," he said.
