The twins finished the competition at the top of the leaderboard and their success at winning weekly mini-competitions already saw them collect $30,000.
During the competition the Harris' travelled across Australia to renovate other contestants homes and Kimmy's abode was also completely transformed.
Rhi said the pair were still coming to terms with being recognised on the street by strangers who watched them on House Rules.
"Some people can be really cool about it and then others shove a camera in your face or point at you," she said.
"When you sign up for the show you don't think that far in advance, you forget there's the whole other side that comes when it goes to air."
Keeping their appearance on the show a secret before episodes aired and "playing dumb" was also a challenge.
"We had to disappear off social media because you can't really post that you're hanging out in Sydney or Rottnest Island," Kimmy said.
"Mum knew, she was the one was responsible for looking after the dogs so she had to know."
Kimmy and Rhi said they were now back at work and would learn the House Rules grand final outcome tonight like everyone else, as alternate endings were filmed to keep the winning duo's identities top secret.
